HELP!!

Ok...I really need your help! We are taking our family pictures on Monday night. I am having a hard time trying to decide what to have everyone wear. Last year we were all in pastel colors. The year before it was yellows and browns. So, I need any and all suggestions! I would prefer to not have to go out and buy anything. I just need a good color scheme or something. Please post a comment and let me know your thoughts. (Annie...I would love to hear what you think, since you are a pro!) Thanks so much!! I look forward to hearing your ideas!!

I think Red and Brown or Blue and White would look really nice with your guys complexion, hair color and I know you have most of those colors in your closets already! Both are Christmas-y but would look good year round regardless! Have fun!

we did white shirts with jeans last year and it turned out really cute... and it was something we already had. :)

i agree with tiffany. if you'd like to get really dressed up, you already have your outfit from my wedding (which i must add is very stylish and looks GREAT on you) and then ryan could wear a brown button up shirt or even a different colored shirt with a brown tie (and i know you know how to make those!) and the same for the kids. solid colors always seem the best route to go for photographs because it doesn't take attention away from the subjects in the picture. crazy prints can have too much going on and bring more attention onto the attire than the people. or, if you wanted to do something easier, but have everyone coordinate, you could have all the girls have the same colored accents...like you and heidi could wear the same headband (which you did at the wedding with your sisters as well and looked good too) and have lindsay wear a bow in the same color. and then have the boys wear the same color scheme or something. i would also advise not to wear too much white. 1. it reflects light in a picture and its very hard to photograph and 2. it doesn't help ANYONE'S figure. i would do color groups. lets say you wanted to wear browns, ryan could wear dark brown and the boys could wear light brown. if you wanted the entire family to wear brown, you could wear beige and the girls could wear a khaki color. that way there is enough of a break-up in color where when you look at the picture and its a blob of one color with just little heads popping out everywhere or shadows distinguishing people. you all have warm tones in your skin. stick with warm tones. not only will they look great on you but they're very festive for the season.

Ooh! I think the stuff from the wedding was a great color scheme. We did red, white and blue this July when we took my side of the family pictures. Those turned out cute. Red and black are good for Christmas. I also like the white shirts with jeans. You'll all look cute no matter what.

Wow, natalie sure had some great suggestions. We always end up having our family pictures in sepia or black and white that way no one has to get a new wardrobe and it always goes in our home. Good luck.

our family did a black a few years ago and Reinbold ended up using our family picture for their mailers! The girls had white collard shirts with a black sweater over it and the boys had dark grey sweaters...it looked good. I would try to stay away from the white, especially in winter when all our tans have faded. It's the people who make the picture, not the clothes...however they can help.

Hum....I always tell my clients NOT to match each other. I think when everyones individuality can shine through on a portrait it really makes it that much better. I also don't do a lot of posed shots. Most of what I do is candid, real life photography. That means I act as a fly on the wall while the client interacts with their family. My goal as a photographer is to catch those fun and sweet moments on "film". I guess the best way to describe it is like watching a movie. The characters never match their clothing and dress their best in every scene...it's real life.
Anyway, that is a really long response to a simple question. But since you are asking every man's opinion here, that is mine. If you were my client, I would suggest to you that you dress in normal everyday clothing that you can move freely in and that you feel comfortable in. Hope that helps.
P.S. I so did not mean to leave you off the "groupies" list. You are on the list now sista! :)
